I
was really expecting this flick to suck ass since the trailers made this out to
be total garbage (the dialogue that was used was AWFUL!). But since I'm a fan
of director Michael Mann's work I decided to give him the benefit of the doubt
since he created the TV show this was based on in the 80s. The end result was
pretty damned good. It's a little too talky and focuses on Colin Farrell's
Crockett most of the time instead of sharing the story equally with Jamie Foxx,
but for the most part it's a gripping crime thriller that really pushes the
fact that this isn't some toned down TV show anymore. 'R' rating baby! The plot
is basically about Crockett and Tubbs going undercover in a drug kingpin's
business in order to bring him down. Crockett gets involved with the kingpin's
lady and all hell breaks loose. There are moments where it slows down and gets
a little boring, but it usually snaps back with a great action scene (that
trailer park assault was AWESOME!). Highly recommended if you like your crime
thrillers gritty and raw.
